Know How to Improve Your Team Dynamic

This article is written as an Individual Review Assignment for PPL CSUI 2021

When you are working for something, it is not rare to have a work in a team. A team usually consisted by two or more people working together to reach something together. When you are already making a team, you have to remember that each individual in the team is very important. So you have to make sure that your team member is going along with each other.

Everyone should be know that the team emotional condition affect the team productivity. When your team member don’t trust each other or keep blaming each other, fore sure the team won’t be doing well most of the work that should be easy become something hard. On the other hand, when your team are very cooperative with every single of them have a powerful teamwork problems can be solved easily, which mean the team can gave a better performance for the project.

That mean, we need to make sure that our team must be able to get along with each other at all time, but how?

Team Dynamic

By definition, Team Dynamic are behavioral relation between member of team [1]. These relation between each other eventually affect each other in the team. It should be noted that this will impact the team as whole, especially the team behavior and performance. It should be noted that both team leader and member contribute to their team.

A bad Team Dynamic will bring omen to your team, so it must be avoided by all cost. Then, what is the cause of bad one?

Cause of Bad Team Dynamic

  • Bad Leadership: A leader is someone who lead the whole team, if a leader can’t decide what is best for the team everything is gonna be messed up.
  • Accept everything from the other: This is something often happened, where you have your own opinion but afraid of expressing it. Instead, you agree with the others even if you know it was a bad idea.
  • Bad Teammate Behavior: An individuals that were toxic in the team, this kind of person will bring disaster to the team. The kind of bad behavior could be a type that always disagree with other opinion, do not participate in discussion, always dominating the whole event, or doesn’t taking thing seriously at times.
  • Free Rider: In a team, every single member assigned with their own task. Imagine there is someone that almost don’t contribute to the team, makin the other gain more work load. Irritating isn’t it?
  • Too Emotional: Judge someone opinion once, and they will not express their opinion anymore. Shouldn’t judge someone to harsh.

When there is a cause of bad Team Dynamic, there’s should be a tricks to make a good one right?

Improving Your Team Dynamic

  • Know Your Team: It is important for team leader to know his/her team well. A good leader should know what is bad and good about the team performance, with this a leader should be able to figuring out a way to improve thing and lessen bad things in a team.
  • Clear Responsibilities: Make sure that a team have a well defined goal and everyone know clearly what should they do.
  • Know Each Other: Make sure that everyone in a team know each other well, when someone know the other’s they won’t be shy for sure. A lot of bonding session will be needed to warm up the whole team since not all people can easily get out of their comfort zone, but once they do it will be worth it for the team!
  • Communication: If something happened during your work, make sure you communicate it properly. Hiding a problem won’t solve it, but instead it will only cause more problem where each member of team will blame each other.
  • Be Bold: Warmup everyone in the team to make sure everyone is brave enough to express their opinion. This is not going to be easy considering different personality for each person, however a hidden opinion sometimes can be valuable. So make sure everyone tell what they are thinking about.

Team Dynamic on my PPL CSUI 2021 Group Project

The Team Dynamic in my PPL CSUI 2021 Group Project are very good! Everyone in my team know each other a lot, we do always talk with each other when there is a problem seeking help from the others. Furthermore, our workload always well defined during the Sprint Planning. Each time we faced a blocker, we always expressed it during our Daily Standup Meeting too, so everyone knows and can help if someone really needed some help. When there is something in our mind, we also always express it to our Product Owner and Sprint Master so they may consider our opinion.

Conclusion

It should be noted that Team Dynamic really important for a team. Since a good Team Dynamic will unlock the team maximum potential. Also, having a known as good person in a team will make more people like you, which is going to expand your network with good reputation. If you are having a bad Team Dynamic, make sure that you fix it up ASAP for your own good too anyway.
